Dance Curriculum in Schools
Global Groove creates successful partnerships with classroom teachers by providing meaningful and inclusive Dance programs that reflect the Ontario Ministry of Education Curriculum Expectations. Global Groove provides an enjoyable approach to Dance class that focuses on community, inclusion, individual expression, and success among all students. Students will be engaged in experiential learning with various co-operative activities requiring collaboration among peers. Global Groove believes that everyBODY can dance and provides an equitable opportunity for all students to reach success in a safe and supportive environment!
DANCING WITH CREATIVITY
Students will explore ways that props can be used in creative ways to become an extension of themselves! They will experiment with various props and objects, such as hoops, bamboo sticks, ribbons, Octabands, Silly Dance Sacs, and other exciting objects will be integrated into each class.
DANCING ACROSS THE GLOBE
This unit aims at fostering a sense of cultural awareness, so that students become open-minded, culturally sensitive, and artistic global dancers. Students will participate in various collaborative and co-operative activities to help internalize new concepts and techniques. Cultural dances learned throughout the unit consist of Hip Hop, Bollywood Bhangra, Tibetan, African, Belly Dancing, Salsa, Electro Pow Wow, and more!
Students explore different cultural styles of Hip Hop, such as Raggaeton (Latin), Break Dancing (African-American), and Jazz-Funk (hybrid of Jazz and Hip Hop). This unit will broaden students' understanding of the Hip Hop culture that goes beyond the commercialized representations that are found in the media today. Safe techniques and historical origins will be followed by opportunities to choreograph and perform dance works. Students will develop an awareness of themselves and as a collaborator within a team.
Hooping is a great way to stay active while having fun. Students will use their imagination to design and create their own professional, dazzling dance hoop! Supplies, such as an assembled custom - sized hoop and decorative tape will be provided! Hoop crafting will befollowed by hoop lessons and a hoop jam.
DANCING THROUGH THE DECADES
Students learn various styles of dance from different eras starting from the 1900s to the present. Themes for each time period include The Roaring '20s, The Fabulous '50s, The Swinging '60s, The '70s Disco Fever, The Best of the '80's, and The '90s Old School Hip Hop! Students will experience a blast from the past, as they learn dance moves that were once the most popular! Students will also have the opportunity to create their own unique dance moves and routines!
DANCING THROUGH LITERACY
Students use dance as a form of physical literacy that uses the language of the body to artistically convey thoughts and ideas. Various stories, such as "The Itsy Bitsy Spider," The Very Hungry Caterpillar," and the "I Can Dance" series will come to life through creative dance and movement, bringing reading to a new and exciting dimension. This unit promotes literacy and expands the boundaries for learning for all students!
GROOVE & MOVE
Groove & Move is an exhilarating and easy to follow, fitness inspired dance party! Grove & Move uses Cultural Dance Styles and rhythms to create an enjoyable dance experience for everyone! Groove & Move is a great way to promote health and physical exercise for youth!
